Heerenveen, Groningen, Rotterdam shine in thrilling Eredivisie weekend

SC Heerenveen and NAC Breda kicked off the Eredivisie weekend with a breathtaking 3-3 draw at the buzzing Abe Lenstra Stadion in Frisia.

Former Feyenoord and Huddersfield defender Terence Kongolo endured a nightmare cameo, netting an own goal just fourteen minutes after replacing the injured Rio Hillen.

However, Leo Greiml and Sydney van Hooijdonk sparked a second-half turnaround for NAC with two quick goals within ten minutes of the restart.

Heerenveen’s Maas Willemsen drew the hosts level in the 68th minute before Vaclav Sejk punished goalkeeper Daniel Bielica’s blunder to make it 3-2.

Ex-Wolves striker Paul Gladon pulled one back for Fortuna, but the hosts couldn’t find an equaliser as Groningen earned their sixth win of the campaign, a milestone they didn’t reach until February last season.

Sparta Rotterdam 1–0 Telstar: Lauritsen strikes again

Sparta Rotterdam secured back-to-back league victories with a narrow 1-0 triumph over newcomers Telstar, their first home win since August.

Telstar came close late on when Guus Offerhaus fired narrowly wide, but they remain winless in four of their last five matches and sit in the relegation zone. Sparta’s victory lifts them to sixth ahead of Sunday’s fixtures involving FC Twente and FC Utrecht.

Heracles slump continues in Volendam rout
Heracles Almelo’s nightmare season worsened with a 3-0 defeat to promoted side FC Volendam, just a week after suffering a 7-0 humiliation.

The match began in chaos as crowd trouble forced referee Danny Makkelie to temporarily halt proceedings.

Once play resumed, Nordin Bukala broke the deadlock for Volendam three minutes before halftime, and Yannick Leliendal doubled the lead shortly after the restart with a stunning long-range effort.

Things went from bad to worse for Heracles when Mario Engels received a second yellow card for simulation, leaving his side a man down.

Substitute Aurelio Oehlers sealed the result in the 66th minute, deepening Heracles’ misery, they remain bottom with just three points from ten games, already four behind their nearest rivals.

PEC Zwolle 2–2 NEC Nijmegen: Late drama in even contest
NEC Nijmegen’s slump continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by PEC Zwolle in a tense Saturday night encounter.

After a flying start to the season, NEC have faltered in recent weeks, and though Koki Ogawa gave them a ninth-minute lead, they couldn’t hold on. Jamiro Monteiro equalised for PEC before halftime with a superb curling free-kick.

Ajax loanee Ahmetcan Kaplan restored NEC’s advantage early in the second half, but PEC hit back swiftly through Koen Kostons, who tapped into an empty net after a quick counter.

The result leaves NEC at risk of dropping out of the play-off spots depending on Sunday’s results, while PEC remain 16th, hovering above the relegation zone.
