Nick Verschuren scored a dramatic stoppage-time header as Sparta Rotterdam fought back to secure a 3-3 draw against Utrecht on Saturday.
The defender proved crucial at both ends of the pitch, coming close with a header from a set piece in the 28th minute before producing the decisive moment deep into added time.
With the match heading towards defeat, Verschuren rose to meet Joel Ideho’s cross in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time and guided his header into the centre of the net to rescue a valuable point for Sparta.
The 20-year-old also made a significant contribution defensively, recording seven clearances and winning three aerial duels as Utrecht repeatedly threatened on the counter.
The result moved Sparta from 14th to eighth in the table, while Utrecht slipped from 13th to 14th.
Sparta will next travel to Excelsior, while Utrecht face a difficult home fixture against PSV.
