Eredivisie: PSV humiliate Zwolle 6-1, extend lead

PSV delivered a ruthless performance in Eindhoven, thrashing PEC Zwolle 6-1 to remain firmly on top of the Eredivisie standings, with Esmir Bajraktarević at the heart of a dominant second-half display.

The hosts made their intent clear early, as Ricardo Pepi nodded home Bajraktarević’s cross in the eighth minute to hand PSV a deserved lead.

Zwolle briefly threatened a comeback after the break when Zico Buurmeester fired in a low effort to level matters in the 51st minute.

However, PSV quickly reasserted control, with Pepi restoring the advantage six minutes later, once again connecting with a pinpoint delivery from Bajraktarević.

From there, it turned into a one-sided contest. Simon Graves turned the ball into his own net in the 72nd minute, before Bajraktarević got on the scoresheet himself a minute later, finishing from distance after being set up by Guus Til.

Couhaib Driouech added a fifth with a simple close-range finish in the 79th minute, and Bajraktarević capped off a standout performance by grabbing his second goal of the game three minutes later, this time assisted by Driouech.

PSV’s dominance was reflected in the numbers, as they controlled 67.1% of possession and tested the goalkeeper with 11 shots on target from 17 attempts. Zwolle, in contrast, managed just four efforts on target from six shots.

Goalkeeper Tom de Graaff kept Zwolle in the contest with a string of saves, while Nick Olij was alert when called upon to deny the visitors.

PSV will now turn their attention to a high-profile clash away at Ajax, while Zwolle return home to face Heracles.
