Newcastle United fought back from a two-goal deficit to snatch a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at St James’ Park, extending the visitors’ wait for a first Premier League win under Marco Rose after another late collapse.
Bournemouth looked set to claim victory after James Tavernier opened the scoring before Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw turned the ball into his own net.
However, Newcastle responded almost immediately after the second goal.
Harvey Barnes reduced the deficit just 27 seconds later, cutting inside before curling a superb effort into the net.
The hosts continued to search for an equaliser and were eventually rewarded in the 88th minute when substitute Jacob Ramsey found the corner with a composed finish.
The result extends Newcastle’s unbeaten start under Matthias Jaissle, while Bournemouth were left to rue another missed opportunity after failing to protect a winning position for the third consecutive match.
Bournemouth had enjoyed the better of the overall contest, registering 17 shots compared with Newcastle’s eight, but the visitors were unable to turn their dominance into a victory.
The Cherries have now dropped seven points from winning positions this season, the highest total recorded by any Premier League side.
For Newcastle, Ramsey’s late intervention ensured they avoided defeat and maintained their positive beginning under Jaissle.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, will have to wait longer for their first win of the Rose era.
