APC chieftain worried about strong opposition alliance in 2027 election

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Ismael Ahmed, has expressed concerns over the possibility of a united opposition in the 2027 presidential election.

Ahmed stated that if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had formed an alliance in the 2023 election, the APC and President Bola Tinubu would likely have lost.

Speaking during an interview on the Mic On podcast with Nigerian journalist Seun Okinbaloye, Ahmed addressed growing speculation about a potential political coalition between Atiku and Obi for the upcoming election.

When asked about the impact of such an alliance, Ahmed admitted that he was indeed worried.

He emphasized that the APC would not underestimate the threat posed by a united opposition, stressing that a coalition between the two figures could potentially lead to a loss for the ruling party in 2027.

Ahmed’s comments highlight the serious challenge the APC might face in the next election if Atiku and Obi decide to combine their efforts.

“Yes, it does. I never take any potential threat for a joke in politics. And if you look at the votes of Atiku plus Obi in 2023, we could have easily lost the election if they were put together. God forbid that they come together,” Ahmed said.
