Serie A: Lecce hold Torino to 1-1 draw

Torino and Lecce shared the points after playing out a 1-1 draw in their Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Saturday, with both sides extending their disappointing recent runs.

The match, which had its kick-off delayed by 16 minutes because of incorrectly marked goal lines detected during checks by goal-line technology officials, produced two second-half goals, both coming from deflected efforts.

Torino broke the deadlock in the 60th minute through Giovanni Simeone, whose angled strike took a heavy deflection off Lecce defender Kialonda Gaspar before looping over goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone into the net.

Lecce restored parity 13 minutes later when Konan N’Dri’s effort from the edge of the penalty area deflected off Daniel Braganca and found its way past Torino goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

Both teams pushed for a winner, but Torino came closest to snatching all three points in the closing stages.

In the 88th minute, Ché Adams’ acrobatic overhead kick struck the woodwork before Simeone’s follow-up effort was saved by Falcone.

Adams had earlier created another opportunity for Torino, setting up Zakaria Aboukhlal, whose side-footed attempt was kept out by Falcone.

The result ended Torino’s hopes of recovering from consecutive defeats against Como and Frosinone, following an earlier run of three successive victories.

Lecce, meanwhile, continued their struggles after losing five of their previous six matches, including a damaging home defeat to relegation rivals Genoa.

Both sides will consider the result an opportunity missed, particularly Torino, who had the clearer chances to secure victory late in the encounter.
