Snakes were our meat for Eba growing up in poverty – Magixx

Nigerian singer, Alexander Adelabu, popularly known as Magixx, has recounted his experience growing up in poverty, revealing that snakes which emerged from the walls of houses during rainfall sometimes served as meat for eba in his childhood neighbourhood.

The singer’s account was shared by social media platform Instablog9ja in a post on Instagram on Saturday.

Magixx described the harsh living conditions he experienced as a child, saying rats frequently crawled over residents’ legs while they slept, while snakes occasionally appeared inside their homes.

Recalling the experience, the singer said, “I’m telling you, rats used to run on top of our legs. They sleep like this, right? They run on top of your leg.”

He further explained that whenever it rained, snakes would emerge from the walls of houses, adding that residents sometimes welcomed the reptiles because they could serve as food.

“If rain falls, snakes come out from people’s walls. And when snakes come out, we would be happy because that’s our meat for eba,” he said.

Magixx also disclosed that his mother sold paraga, a locally brewed alcoholic drink, while he helped people carry and sell jedi, a traditional Yoruba herbal concoction, as part of his childhood experience.

“My mum sold paraga. I can take you to our shop, as she still has it. Although she doesn’t do the business anymore, it is still outside our house,” the singer said.

Magixx rose to prominence after joining Mavin Records in 2021.

He is known for songs including Love Don’t Cost a Dime, All Over and I Dream in Color.
