Chelsea manager, Xabi Alonso, has expressed confidence that new signing Morgan Rogers will form a strong attacking partnership with Cole Palmer following the forward’s record-breaking move to Stamford Bridge.
Rogers recently completed a £117m transfer from Aston Villa, becoming Chelsea’s most expensive signing.
The England international is reunited with Palmer, having previously played alongside him in Manchester City’s youth ranks.
Alonso believes the pair have the qualities to thrive together and strengthen Chelsea’s attacking play.
“I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well,” Alonso said.
“We need to have a good mix. If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions with good control, then we will be more competitive with the ball and against the ball.”
The Chelsea boss also welcomed the club’s success in securing Rogers’ signature despite reported interest from Premier League rivals, including Arsenal.
“For sure it’s a great signing,” he said.
“In that position we needed an important player and I’m sure there were not many more better options than Morgan Rogers.
“It means a lot for everyone and for the players that are already here as well, they have a good feeling and we’re looking forward to having him in a few weeks.”
