President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally in support of his re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu arrived in the state on Saturday after leaving Akwa Ibom State, where he spent Friday commissioning projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
The President was received at the Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo International Airport by Vice President Kashim Shettima, six South-South governors, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other top government officials.
The visit is part of activities by the APC and its allies to garner support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The campaign rally is scheduled to hold at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, serving as host.
Wike had expressed optimism that the rally would draw over 70,000 supporters, noting that preparations for the event had been concluded.
“We are highly elated to receive Mr President. Rivers people are very enthusiastic to receive him tomorrow. That is why we have come here to see how prepared we are,” Wike said during an inspection of the stadium on Friday.
Wike also described the visit as Tinubu’s first trip to Rivers State since he was inaugurated as President in May 2023.
“The last time the President visited here was when I was in office as governor, when he was President-elect. He came and commissioned projects,” he said.
The Rivers rally comes after Tinubu’s engagements in Akwa Ibom State, where he commissioned the Victor Attah International Airport and other infrastructure projects completed by the Umo Eno administration.
