Tinubu inaugurates upgraded Akwa Ibom international airport

President Bola Tinubu on Friday inaugurated the upgraded Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, praising successive administrations for sustaining the project and Governor Umo Eno for bringing the vision to completion.

The President inaugurated the facility shortly after arriving in the state for an official visit, during which he is expected to commission several landmark projects and attend a grand reception in his honour at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Speaking during the ceremony, Tinubu described his visit to Akwa Ibom as a homecoming, recalling his early days in the state when he worked as a mobile auditor and participated in activities relating to its development.

He said, “For me, this visit is a homecoming. I deeply grateful for the state’s progress, most especially huge contributions of successive administrations to its growth.”

Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of former Governor Victor Attah, after whom the airport was named, noting that the project had evolved from an ambitious development plan into reality through sustained commitment and continuity in governance.

He commended Eno for building on the foundation laid by previous administrations and ensuring the completion of the airport project.

“I must commend Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the vision of successive administrations and for bringing the airport project to fruition. This is a significant milestone in Akwa Ibom’s infrastructural advancement and economic development and I thank you all”, he said.

The President said the international airport would improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people, encourage cultural integration and create wider economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom by linking the state with other parts of Nigeria and the international community.
