Hakeem Ahmed urges North to reject Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

A political commentator, Hakeem Ahmed, has urged Nigerians in the North to reject President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, warning that the region may not withstand another four years under his administration.

Ahmed made the call in a statement circulated on social media on Wednesday, November 4, amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.

He criticised Tinubu’s leadership, arguing that the North would bear the consequences of another four years of the President’s administration.

“The North cannot survive another four years of Tinubu’s leadership failure, even if other regions can. Northerners cannot. I call on all my northern brothers to reject Tinubu’s second term,” Ahmed said.

His remarks come as political conversations surrounding Tinubu’s possible second term intensify, with economic hardship, insecurity and the rising cost of living featuring prominently in public debates about the administration’s performance.

The North was a significant factor in Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election.

Although he secured substantial support across the country, the region contributed a considerable share of his winning votes.

Tinubu, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, defeated his closest challengers, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, to emerge President.

However, his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign exchange policy changes, have generated widespread debate over their impact on households and businesses.

Ahmed’s comments were shared on X by a user identified as @Felix and subsequently attracted reactions on social media, where users expressed differing opinions about the President’s performance and chances of securing another term.

While some commenters supported Ahmed’s position and called for political change, others defended Tinubu, arguing that he could still win re-election.

One commenter, AMINDA, questioned how the President intended to secure another victory, citing his 2023 election figures and arguing that his support was declining in both the North and South-West.

Other participants, however, dismissed the criticism, insisting that Tinubu could remain in office beyond his first term.
