A patient diagnosed with Ebola virus disease in Nigeria has reportedly been flown out of the country aboard an air ambulance, according to ARISE News.
The patient, identified in the report as the wife of a Swiss diplomat, was reportedly evacuated early Monday through the private jet section of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a post on its X account, ARISE News reported that the evacuation took place in the early hours of October 26.
“The index patient diagnosed with Ebola virus in Nigeria has been evacuated from the country early this morning through an air ambulance at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport,” the station stated.
The broadcaster added that it had received information that the patient would be flown out by 6 a.m., with a medical evacuation aircraft already stationed at the airport.
According to ARISE News, its crew later observed a convoy of ambulances arriving from the Abuja city centre, accompanied by diplomatic vehicles.
The report said the convoy included an international agency vehicle that proceeded into the airport’s private jet section.
ARISE News further reported that airport officials restricted access to the area before its crew obtained video footage of a medical evacuation aircraft preparing to depart with the patient.
The station quoted a source as saying that the Federal Government planned to announce the evacuation only after the aircraft had departed Nigerian airspace.
However, the report did not include an official government confirmation of the patient’s evacuation at the time of publication.
The Federal Government had confirmed an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory on October 20, stating that 44 contacts had been identified for monitoring.
The reported evacuation comes amid ongoing efforts to contain the disease and monitor individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
