Nigerians who fail to see progress need ‘Tinubu eyeglasses’ – First Lady

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said Nigerians who do not recognise the progress made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration may need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”.

She made the remark on Friday during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots group mobilising support for the President’s re-election in 2027.

According to her, the country is making progress, despite differing perceptions of the administration’s performance.

“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.

The First Lady referenced improvements at Nigerian airports, expressing optimism about ongoing changes and her desire for more convenient air travel.

“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she stated.

The expression “Jigi-Bola” is associated with an eye-care initiative introduced by President Tinubu in 2001 during his tenure as Lagos State governor. The programme provided services such as eye screening, eyeglasses and surgery before its relaunch by the Lagos State Government in 2021.

Mrs Tinubu also expressed hope for a better Nigeria after her husband’s second term, saying she looked forward to leaving the Presidential Villa in 2031.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.

She subsequently inaugurated the movement’s Abuja headquarters and declared support for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.

The First Lady also expressed support for the All Progressives Congress and the movement’s convener, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
