Eredivisie: ADO Den Haag stun PSV 2-1

ADO Den Haag secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over reigning Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven on Saturday, October 17, after Matej Sin scored a late winner to hand the promoted side their first league victory of the season.

PSV took the lead in the 20th minute through Sven Mijnans, who finished Guus Til’s cut-back with a well-placed effort into the far corner.

However, the visitors suffered a major setback before half-time when Mijnans was sent off after receiving two yellow cards within five minutes.

The midfielder was first booked for pulling an opponent’s shirt before receiving a second caution for a reckless challenge near ADO’s penalty area.

PSV were also forced to replace Til after the midfielder suffered an injury following an awkward landing.

With a numerical advantage, ADO increased the pressure after the break and drew level in the 55th minute.

Juho Kilo’s long-range effort took a deflection before beating PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar.

The home side continued to search for a winner, while PSV attempted to protect their defence and threaten on the counterattack.

PSV nearly regained the lead when Amir Bouhamdi struck the crossbar.

The visitors also had a late opportunity through Mikkel Bro Hansen, but his effort was comfortably gathered by ADO goalkeeper Kilian Nikiema.

Sergino Dest fired narrowly over the crossbar as PSV pushed forward, while ADO’s Evan Rottier came close on two occasions at the other end.

Just when the match appeared to be heading for a draw, Sin delivered the decisive moment, scoring with a header at the far post in the closing seconds to complete a memorable comeback for ADO.

The result represents a significant setback for PSV, who have now lost two of their last three Eredivisie matches.

The defeat also gives league leaders Feyenoord an opportunity to extend their advantage at the top of the table to four points if they defeat Telstar.

Kilo was named Man of the Match after playing a key role in ADO’s impressive victory.
