Bayer Leverkusen fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Augsburg in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at the WWK Arena.
Leverkusen dominated the opening stages and were rewarded when Christian Kofane raced onto Edmond Tapsoba’s long pass before calmly finishing past Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, who was making his 100th Bundesliga appearance.
The visitors continued to control proceedings, with Moussa Diaby, Ezequiel Fernandez and Ibrahim Maza all threatening the Augsburg goal.
The hosts struggled to impose themselves in the first half, with Noahkai Banks one of the few players to earn praise before receiving a booking shortly before the break.
Augsburg, however, turned the game around after the restart.
Michael Gregoritsch took advantage of hesitation from Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken to tap the ball over the line and level the score.
Gregoritsch then completed the turnaround within two minutes, heading home from a corner to put Augsburg 2-1 ahead.
Leverkusen appeared to have equalised before the hour mark, but their goal was ruled out following a VAR review for a foul.
Leverkusen refused to give up and eventually got their reward in the closing stages when substitute Patrik Schick found the net to make it 2-2.
The goal meant Schick had scored in three consecutive matches.
The draw extended Augsburg’s unbeaten home run to five matches, although they dropped to third in the Bundesliga standings.
Leverkusen, meanwhile, maintained their unbeaten record in September, a run stretching back to 2022.
