FC Twente were forced to settle for a point after playing out a 2-2 draw away at FC Groningen in an entertaining Eredivisie encounter on Sunday.
The visitors took an early lead after Groningen goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen made an error that allowed Marko Pjaca to capitalise and put Twente ahead.
Groningen responded strongly, with Thom van Bergen restoring parity in the 10th minute with a powerful effort from the left side of the penalty area.
The hosts then completed the turnaround in the 28th minute when Tygo Land converted an assist from Thijmen Blokzijl to make it 2-1.
Twente, however, refused to go into the break behind. Wout Weghorst reacted quickest inside the box to tap home and level the score before half-time.
Both sides continued to search for a winning goal after the restart, creating opportunities at either end.
Weghorst came close to completing his brace with around 15 minutes remaining, but his attempt narrowly missed the target.
The Twente striker was later involved in a confrontation with Vaessen, with the Groningen goalkeeper appearing unhappy with what he felt was an attempt to win a foul.
Groningen also threatened late on, while Jacob Ondrejka fired narrowly wide as both teams pushed for a decisive goal.
Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink was introduced in the 87th minute, but neither side could find the breakthrough during the remaining minutes.
The result means Twente leave Groningen with a share of the points, while both teams will reflect on missed chances in a closely fou,ght contest.
