Eredivisie: Arokodare scores as Ajax sink Telstar 4-0

Nigeria striker, Tolu Arokodare, was on target as Ajax cruised to a 4-0 victory over Telstar in Sunday’s Eredivisie clash.

Ajax struggled to find their rhythm in the opening stages, despite enjoying plenty of possession.

Telstar remained organised and limited the visitors to very few clear chances.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 37th minute when Davy Klaassen converted from close range after Steven Berghuis delivered a dangerous corner.

Ajax appeared to have doubled their advantage shortly before half-time, but Julian Brandt’s effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Telstar came out strongly after the restart and nearly levelled when Rui Mendes was sent through on goal.

However, Ajax goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen produced an important save to keep his side ahead.

Ajax responded by taking complete control of the match.

Berghuis doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 56th minute after finishing a swift counter-attack, before Arokodare added Ajax’s third four minutes later.

The Nigerian forward finished clinically after receiving a pass from Berghuis, who played a key role in Ajax’s second-half surge with a goal and two assists.

Ajax continued to dominate as manager Míchel Sánchez made several substitutions, including the introduction of Marcos Leonardo.

The Brazilian forward completed the scoring in the 78th minute, reacting quickest after Telstar failed to deal with Ouazane’s effort.

The emphatic victory saw Ajax leave Velsen-Zuid with all three points after overcoming a frustrating first half.
