Nigeria’s Super Falcons will take on South Africa’s Banyana Banyana on Thursday, August 13, in a crucial playoff for a chance to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 9pm Nigerian time, with both sides battling to remain in contention for a place at next year’s tournament in Brazil.
The Super Falcons were forced into the playoff route after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The loss ended Nigeria’s opportunity to secure one of the four automatic World Cup tickets awarded to the teams that reach the WAFCON semi-finals.
South Africa now stands between the nine-time African champions and the next phase of the qualification process.
Nigeria will need to overcome Banyana Banyana to keep their World Cup hopes alive and move closer to securing a place in Brazil.
The clash is therefore expected to be a high-stakes encounter, with another defeat potentially ending the Super Falcons’ hopes of featuring at the 2027 global showpiece.
