WAFCON: Amao hails Super Falcons’ crucial win over Zambia

Former Nigerian international, Fatai Amao, has praised the Super Falcons for their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia at the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, describing the result as a significant boost to the team’s campaign.

Following Tuesday’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to tournament debutants Malawi, the nine-time African champions entered the encounter knowing that only a win would revive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

Nigeria responded positively, with Asisat Oshoala breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute.

The striker reacted quickest after her initial effort was saved, converting the rebound to hand the Falcons a crucial lead that ultimately secured all three points.

Speaking with Completesports.com after the match, Amao said the victory sends a strong message to the rest of the competition and restores belief within the squad.

“It’s a big relief to see the Super Falcons overcome Zambia after that shocking loss to Malawi in the opening game.

“This victory will definitely boost the confidence of the players ahead of their final group game against Egypt.

“The players are aware that winning the game against Zambia will boost their chances of qualifying for the next, and I am happy they have done that.”
