WAFCON: CAF hails Oshoala after Super Falcons beat Zambia

The Confederation of African Football has hailed Asisat Oshoala following her match-winning display in the Super Falcons’ crucial 1-0 victory over Zambia at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

After starting on the bench during Nigeria’s surprise 3-2 defeat to Malawi, Oshoala returned to the starting lineup and made an instant impact as the Super Falcons secured a vital win despite being reduced to 10 players.

Defender Tosin Demehin was shown a red card after bringing down Zambia captain Barbra Banda.

Oshoala scored the decisive goal in the eighth minute, racing onto a long pass from Rasheedat Ajibade before calmly beating the Zambian goalkeeper to hand Nigeria an early lead.

Beyond her goal, the experienced forward delivered an energetic performance, constantly troubling Zambia’s backline with her pace, movement and work rate before she was substituted.

Her early strike proved enough to earn all three points for the defending African champions, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive.

CAF acknowledged Oshoala’s influential display by sharing a video of her goal celebration on X, accompanied by the message: “Still got it. Still showing it. Energy of the Day today.”

The Super Falcons will now face Egypt in their final Group B fixture on Wednesday, knowing that victory will guarantee them a place in the quarter-finals.
