Super Falcons to open camp in Morocco ahead of WAFCON

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will step up preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a week-long training camp in Mohammedia, Morocco, beginning on July 15.

The nine-day tournament, scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16, presents the 10-time African champions with an opportunity to retain their continental crown while also chasing qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Head coach Justine Madugu is expected to unveil his final 24-player squad before the team departs for Morocco.

The Falcons last assembled in June, when they played two international friendlies against Senegal.

The Mohammedia camp will provide the coaching staff with their final chance to sharpen tactics, build cohesion within the squad and ensure the players reach peak fitness before moving to Rabat for the competition.

Nigeria, drawn in Group C, will launch their title defence against Malawi on Tuesday, July 28, at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.

The Falcons will then take on Zambia on Saturday, August 1, at the same venue before rounding off their group-stage campaign against Egypt on Wednesday, August 5, at the Olympic Stadium.

Meanwhile, Malawi have bolstered their technical setup ahead of their maiden appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Football Association of Malawi has confirmed the appointment of experienced South African coach Sudesh Singh as the Scorchers’ Technical Adviser, less than a month before their opening Group C clash with Nigeria.

According to the association, the move was made to comply with Confederation of African Football coaching requirements, which stipulate that every head coach at the tournament must possess a CAF A Coaching Licence.

Malawi’s current head coach, Lovemore Fazili, does not hold the required qualification. Consequently, Singh will officially serve as the team’s lead coach on the bench during matches, while Fazili will continue to oversee tactical decisions, select the starting XI and retain overall responsibility for the squad throughout the tournament.

The Malawian federation has also reinforced its backroom staff with the appointment of Tyrese Steyn as Performance Analyst. His duties will include analysing matches, scouting opponents and compiling performance data during the championship.
