Friendly: Super Falcons thrash Senegal 3-0

A strong second-half display powered the Super Falcons to a 3-0 win over Senegal, sealing consecutive victories against the Teranga Lionesses in Ikenne on Monday.

Nigeria controlled large spells of the opening half and created several scoring chances but were unable to convert them.

Washington Spirit striker Gift Monday came closest early on, but her weak effort was easily gathered by the Senegal goalkeeper.

Shortly after, Joy Omewa nearly put Nigeria ahead when she was released by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, only to see her effort rebound off the post.

The Super Falcons then wasted another golden opportunity following a misunderstanding between Toni Payne and Ajibade in the final third.

The breakthrough finally came four minutes after the restart, as Omewa rose highest to power home a well-taken header.

She doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 55th minute with a calm and precise finish to complete her brace.

Head coach Justin Madugu responded with changes in the 63rd minute, bringing on Asisat Oshoala and Folashade Ijamilusi in place of Rinsola Babajide and Omewa.

Just three minutes later, Oshoala made an instant impact, slotting home after being set up by Ajibade to extend the lead to 3-0.

Nigeria maintained their dominance and continued to carve out chances for the rest of the encounter, but they were unable to add further goals as they comfortably wrapped up the win.
