Defending champions, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, are set to commence preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday, February 24.
The nine-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt for the tournament, which will be staged in Morocco next month.
Nigeria will be aiming to secure a record-extending 11th continental title.
As part of their build-up to the competition, the Super Falcons are scheduled to feature in the WAFU B invitational tournament in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, later this month.
Madugu Wants Adequate Preparation
Head coach Justine Madugu said the team is focused on having proper preparations ahead of the championship.
“We can only start camping during the approved FIFA window. Majority of the players are actually coming from abroad, though we have quite a few that we are also looking at home here in Nigeria,” Madugu declared.
“We can’t start a camp with less than 10 players, and you say you are opening camp. For now, we are looking at February 24 which is the most realistic day.”
Nigeria will open their title defence against tournament debutants Malawi on Wednesday, March 18.
All of the team’s group matches will take place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco.
