Super Falcons drop to 37th in FIFA ranking

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have fallen one spot to 37th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released on Thursday.

The update, published on FIFA’s official website, reflects global movements following the last international window, even though Nigeria did not feature in any fixtures during that period.

Despite the slight drop from their previous 36th position, the nine-time African champions remain the highest-ranked team on the continent.

Their consistency at the top of African women’s football highlights their strong competitive history and continued dominance, even in the absence of recent matches.

Justine Madugu’s squad was inactive during the most recent FIFA break as the team continues to restructure ahead of upcoming international commitments.

Analysts believe the lack of match activity contributed to their global slip, with several other nations gaining points through friendly and competitive fixtures.

On the African scene, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, Ghana’s Black Princesses, Zambia’s Copper Queens, and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses complete the top five on the continent.

The strong competition among these teams signals a rising level of women’s football across Africa, with several nations steadily improving in global recognition.

At the global level, world champions Spain maintained their number-one position, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Sweden, who round out the top five.

The rankings continue to reflect the dynamic nature of women’s football, with teams constantly repositioning as they prepare for major tournaments in the coming year.
