Super Eagles and Udinese shot-stopper, Maduka Okoye, has been handed a two-month suspension over alleged involvement in illegal betting activities.
As reported by Football Italia, the 25-year-old avoided a much heavier punishment, potentially a four-year ban, following a probe into suspicious betting patterns.
The controversy began after Okoye was shown a yellow card for time-wasting in the 64th minute during Udinese’s Serie A encounter with Lazio on March 11, 2024.
Authorities were alerted when a surge in bets specifically targeting the Nigeria international to receive a caution was detected, triggering an official investigation.
Alongside three associates, Okoye was investigated and subsequently referred to the disciplinary commission in June 2025.
As a result of the ruling, the goalkeeper will sit out Udinese’s Coppa Italia clash against Carrarese on August 18, in addition to missing six Serie A fixtures.
He will be eligible to return to action from October 19.
