Okoye confident Super Eagles will qualify World Cup

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, remains hopeful about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Currently sitting fourth in their qualifying group, Nigeria trail group leaders South Africa by six points.

The Super Eagles are under pressure to win all four of their remaining matches and rely on their rivals to slip up in order to secure a spot at the global tournament.

The qualifiers resume in September, with Nigeria scheduled to host Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on September 3. Four days later, they will face South Africa in a crucial away fixture.

With everything still to play for, Okoye emphasized the importance of fan support as the team pushes for a World Cup berth.

Speaking to Brila FM, the Udinese shot-stopper said, “I believe we need that support, all the prayers and love for the team.

“We are in very good spirits, and I think with the twelfth man of over 250 million Nigerians, we will always have hope.

“We will come back together in September, and we have a team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.”
