Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, has expressed confidence in his side’s readiness ahead of their crucial quarter-final clash with Zambia’s Copper Queens at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The high-stakes encounter is scheduled for Friday, with both teams looking to book a place in the semi-finals.
Zambia have been one of the standout teams of the tournament so far, finding the back of the net six times during the group stage.
Their squad features two of Africa’s most dangerous forwards, reigning African Women’s Player of the Year, Barbara Banda, and the prolific Rachel Kundananji.
Nigeria, meanwhile, registered four goals in their group matches and will be counting on their experience and depth to overcome the Zambians.
Despite Zambia’s attacking flair, Madugu remains unfazed. The 60-year-old tactician assured that the Super Falcons have done their homework and are prepared for the challenge.
“We have our strategy. We’ve studied them closely. We know what they’re capable of. We’re not too concerned about individual brilliance, it’s a team game. We’ll work on neutralising their strengths,” Madugu said during a pre-match press conference.
