WAFCON: Super Falcons’ Nnadozie anticipates tough battle against Botswana

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie expects a challenging encounter when Nigeria faces Botswana in their second Group B fixture at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Thursday.

The match, scheduled for an 8pm kickoff at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, will mark only the second-ever meeting between the two sides.

Nigeria claimed a 2-0 win the last time they met during the 2022 edition of the tournament, also held in Morocco.

While Nigeria opened their 2024 campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Tunisia, Botswana suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Algeria, setting the stage for a tense showdown as both teams aim to secure valuable points.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Nnadozie emphasized the need for focus, acknowledging the pressure on Botswana to bounce back.

“It will not be an easy game particularly as Botswana lost their first game to Algeria,” the Paris FC shot-stopper told reporters.

“In 2022, we beat them 2-0 also in the group stage, so it will be like a cup final, and we hope to win again.”

A second straight win for the Super Falcons would seal their place in the tournament’s knockout phase.
