Bwala: Onokpasa threatens to withdraw support for Tinubu 2027 bid

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Jesutega Onokpasa, has threatened to withhold support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, along with other party loyalists.

Onokpasa expressed his dissatisfaction with the appointments made by President Tinubu, accusing him of insulting the party’s supporters through his choice of appointees.

In an interview with Arise News on Monday, Onokpasa specifically criticized the recent appointment of Daniel Bwala as a media aide to the president.

He described the appointment as an affront to those who backed Tinubu in the 2023 elections, alleging that it displayed a lack of respect for the party members who helped secure his victory.

Onokpasa emphasized that if the President continues down this path, he would not be able to count on his support in the upcoming 2027 elections.

The APC chieftain also questioned the logic behind appointing individuals who had previously insulted the President, particularly those who accused Tinubu of being involved in criminal activities without evidence.

He suggested that such appointments appeared to validate the insults directed at the President, further deepening the rift between Tinubu and his supporters.

Onokpasa said “I won’t support Tinubu in 2027 only if he retraces his steps, respect our party members and stop bizarre behaviour of insulting all of us in the party by giving appointments to people who insulted us.

“People who called him a drug dealer without evidence. That’s an insult. What is Mr President trying to say? Is he trying to justify the statement the person made?

“If Mr president continues on this trajectory of disrespecting our party members, treating us as if we are beggars, then we can’t support him.

“We made you president and you have to respect us. What is the logic in appointing Daniel Bwala? I don’t see anything other than Mr President telling all of us that “to hell with you.”

When asked if he plans to dump the APC because of the President’s action, Onokpasa said, “Tinubu doesn’t own the party. We all formed the party”.
