The Nigeria Democratic Congress has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections with a directive to its state and Local Government Area chairmen to begin compiling lists of party agents across the country.
The party gave the officials two weeks to complete and submit the lists for consideration and approval by its leadership.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director.
Director said the state and LGA executives were expected to meet with candidates and other relevant stakeholders to compile and harmonise the names of proposed agents.
He said the exercise was being carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
According to him, two categories of agents would be selected—those who would represent the party during National Assembly elections and those for governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The statement read in part, “State and LGA Chairmen shall meet with candidates and stakeholders to generate a comprehensive list of two sets of party agents; those for National Assembly elections and another set for governorship/State Assembly elections.”
The party said the proposed lists would undergo scrutiny and be ratified by its leadership before the agents commence training.
It added that the final nominations must be endorsed by the relevant state chairmen and candidates to authenticate the selections.
The party further stated that where disputes arose between candidates and party leaders over the choice of agents, the candidates’ nominations would take precedence.
Director assured members and supporters that the party was putting the necessary structures in place ahead of the 2027 campaign.
“The leadership of the party wishes to reassure all members, supporters and stakeholders that the National Democratic Congress is fully prepared and ready for a robust, issue-based campaign, with all necessary structures firmly in place,” he said.
The nationwide mobilisation of polling agents forms part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
