NDC spokesperson urges party to sanction ‘opportunistic’ content creators

The spokesperson for the New Democratic Congress, Theo Agada, has urged the party’s leadership to take action against content creators he accused of presenting themselves as activists while pursuing personal interests.

Agada made the call on Saturday in a post on X while commenting on a video uploaded by a content creator known as Flag Boy NG.

In the footage, the content creator was seen wearing a shirt associated with the Obidient Movement and holding political flags and materials connected to Peter Obi and the NDC. He later removed the shirt, gathered the political items and set them on fire.

The video sparked reactions online, with some users interpreting the act as a possible rejection of the NDC and the political movement associated with Obi.

Reacting to the development, Agada criticised what he described as the growing involvement of content creators in political activism for reasons unrelated to genuine political engagement.

He said, “To be honest, I am so exhausted. I think it is about time the party leadership got rid of these opportunistic content creators masquerading as activists.”

He further questioned the motives of individuals involved in leadership disputes within smaller political movements.

Agada added, “If the motivation is not campaign donations, why are you people fighting over leadership in your micro-movements? Shame on you all.”

The spokesperson’s remarks come as political parties and their supporters intensify preparations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The NDC has attracted attention among supporters of Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, although questions surrounding Obi’s political direction and the future of the party continue to generate debate among his supporters.

In the video, Flag Boy NG was shown removing political flags and other materials before pouring a liquid over them and setting them ablaze. The footage ended with a graphic featuring Nigerian flags.

However, the video did not establish whether the action amounted to a formal withdrawal from the NDC or the wider political movement associated with Obi.

Agada’s reaction nevertheless highlighted tensions surrounding the role of independent content creators and self-described activists within opposition political circles ahead of the 2027 elections.
