VIDEO: Fayose endorses Tinubu, Oyebanji for second term

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has publicly declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, while also backing Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his deputy for second terms.

The outspoken former governor, a longstanding member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, made the surprise announcement during a public address over the weekend that sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape.

“I hereby endorse, publicly, without reservation, the President and commander of the armed forces President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for second term,” Fayose declared to cheers from supporters.

Continuing his endorsement, he added: “And to endorse our own governor, humility personified, our own governor Abayomi Oyebanji and his deputy, BAO for second term. Your Excellency, congratulations, congratulations, congratulations.”

The declaration marks a significant political realignment for Fayose, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the ruling All Progressives Congress and its policies in recent years. His public backing of both national and state APC candidates suggests a potential defection may be imminent.

Political analysts note the timing is particularly crucial as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties currently working to form a united front against the APC. Fayose’s endorsement could potentially influence other PDP members to reconsider their positions.

The former governor’s relationship with President Tinubu has been complex over the years, moving from political rivalry to what now appears to be a strategic alliance. His praise for Governor Oyebanji’s “humility” also signals a reconciliation with Ekiti State’s current leadership after previous tensions.
