Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, have received Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, at State House in Entebbe.
The meeting came as Adeboye and other guests arrived in Uganda for the consecration of Museveni’s daughter, Patience, as a bishop.
The consecration is scheduled to take place on Sunday in Maya, with the RCCG leaders among those expected to attend the ceremony.
During the meeting, Museveni highlighted what he described as the positive contributions of Christianity to Africa’s traditional values, particularly its teachings on love, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence.
He cited the Christian instruction to love one’s neighbour, including those with whom one disagrees, as well as the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan.
“These values have strengthened our heritage as a people,” Museveni said.
The Ugandan leader said such principles were consistent with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) philosophy of placing the interests of society above identity.
Museveni also welcomed Adeboye and the other visitors who had travelled to Uganda to witness Patience’s elevation to the episcopacy.
The visit underscores the close ties between Uganda’s leadership and the Nigerian-based RCCG, one of Africa’s largest Christian denominations.
