Vincent Kompany has insisted his Bayern Munich players will “leave everything” on the pitch when they host Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final next week.
The German giants suffered a dramatic 5-4 defeat in Paris on Tuesday night in a pulsating first-leg encounter, but they remain firmly in contention heading into the return fixture in Munich.
Despite taking an early lead through Harry Kane, Bayern were overwhelmed for long spells and found themselves trailing 5-2 before late goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz offered a lifeline and reduced the deficit.
Speaking after the match, Kompany struck a defiant tone:
“We’ll give absolutely everything, really everything we have, even if we have to die on the pitch. We believe,” Kompany said in a post-match comment.
Looking ahead to the decisive second leg at the Allianz Arena, the Bayern boss also appealed for maximum support from the home crowd, urging fans to turn up in full force.
“If someone bought a ticket and feels unwell on the day of the game… stay at home and give your ticket to the fittest of people who can contribute to this FORTRESS that is the Allianz Arena. We must win the game, and we need the support of 75,000 people in the stadium. They have to play the game with us”. He said
Bayern will be chasing another Champions League title, having last lifted the trophy in the 2019/20 season after defeating PSG 1-0 in the final.
However, the defending champions will arrive in Munich determined to protect their advantage and continue their push for back-to-back European titles, a feat achieved by only a select few clubs, including Real Madrid.
