Kane to miss Bayern, Freiburg clash over injury

Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane, will sit out Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to SC Freiburg, but coach Vincent Kompany remains optimistic the England captain will be fit in time for next week’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid.

Kane was absent from England’s friendly loss to Japan due to an ankle issue and has not recovered in time for Bayern’s league fixture this weekend.

The German champions are set to face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

“Harry trained well until Sunday, then he felt something in his ankle while with the national team,” Kompany told reporters.

“That will have an impact on tomorrow’s game — he won’t be available. Nevertheless, I’m positive about Tuesday.

“It’s not great, I’d like him to play against Freiburg, but as things stand today that won’t be possible.”

Bayern currently hold a nine-point advantage over second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga title race and could move a step closer to retaining the league crown this weekend.

However, the Bavarians will be missing both Kane and suspended backup forward Nicolas Jackson.

Meanwhile, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that Raphaël Guerreiro will leave the club when the season ends, with Juventus reportedly keen on signing the Portugal international.

“Rapha will be leaving us. It wasn’t easy because he’s a great lad, has played a lot of good games, is very versatile – a great strength of his,” said Freund.

“But we’ve always said that when we make a decision, we tell the lads, so that’s what we’ve done now.”

Guerreiro has netted 12 goals in 89 appearances for Bayern since joining from Dortmund three years ago.
