Former Bayern Munich star, Thomas Müller, has drawn a comparison between teenage Bayern prospect Lennart Karl and ex-Germany forward Lukas Podolski.
The 17-year-old has impressed during the first half of the season with the Bavarian giants, attracting praise from the club legend.
Speaking to Süddeutsche Zeitung, Müller, who now plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, highlighted Karl’s biggest strength, saying: “His shooting technique is truly extraordinary. He has an excellent finish, a crucial skill in modern football.”
Müller, however, stressed that Karl’s long-term success will depend on how consistently he can get into goal-scoring positions.
“The question that will decide his future is how often he finds himself in those situations: whether he’ll be able to create them himself or whether he’ll need the support of the team,” he added.
The former Germany international went on to reference Podolski’s career, noting similarities in their finishing ability.
“When ‘Poldi’ had the ball in the right space on his left foot, he was explosive. However, compared to the world’s top players, he simply wasn’t able to find the right conditions to shoot with the necessary frequency.”
