United States President, Donald Trump, has announced a temporary halt to attacks on Iran’s energy facilities, saying the decision followed a request from Tehran and that ongoing negotiations are progressing positively.
Speaking on Thursday, Trump revealed that the pause would last for 10 days. In a post on Truth Social, he wrote: “As per Iranian Government request… I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time.”
He also pushed back against contrary reports, adding: “Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well.”
During an appearance on Fox News’ The Five, Trump provided further context, stating: “I gave them a 10-day period. They asked for seven.”
The U.S. leader, who has presented varying objectives and timelines for the conflict with Iran, ranging from regime change to weakening its military and missile systems, also suggested Washington had already secured a strategic advantage.
“In a certain sense, we have already won,” Trump said.
He reiterated that Tehran must agree to a deal or face continued military pressure.
The conflict, which began on February 28 following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets, escalated after Iran launched retaliatory attacks against Israel and Gulf nations hosting U.S. military bases.
Since then, joint U.S.-Israeli operations in Iran, alongside Israeli strikes in Lebanon, have resulted in thousands of deaths. The prolonged fighting has also driven up global oil prices and unsettled financial markets worldwide.
