Iran threatens wider conflict over possible US strikes

Iran has warned that the conflict in the Middle East could spread further if the United States proceeds with any fresh military action against the Islamic republic, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Speaking on state television on Sunday, Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said any renewed US military involvement, particularly air strikes, would trigger a wider regional conflict.

“I believe that if the Americans once again fall for the Zionists’ deception, or move in line with them, and insist on continuing the war, particularly through air strikes, geographically this will expand further,” Akraminia said.

He noted that the conflict had already extended to the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea, citing the recent military escalation involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia.

According to Akraminia, Iran’s military operations now stretch across a broader area of the region.

“The scope of our operations now encompasses the entire region, from US bases in Jordan to the countries along the Persian Gulf,” he said.

He also described the US position in the Middle East as increasingly unstable, saying Washington was reassessing its approach to the region.

“The situation in the Middle East for the United States is difficult and unsettled,” he said, predicting that Washington was now looking “for a new strategy.”

Akraminia added that Iran remained ready for any possible development.

“We are prepared for each of the options and scenarios that appear likely,” he added.

The remarks come ahead of Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to the White House, where Israel announced on Friday that he is expected to meet President Trump on Tuesday.
