Toyin Abraham rejects inclusion in Lagos APC campaign council

Nollywood actress, Toyin Abraham, has denied being part of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abraham was named among members of the council’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate unveiled by the Lagos APC on Thursday.

Her name appeared alongside other entertainment personalities, including veteran actors Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright, as well as Fuji musicians Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

However, Abraham rejected the reported appointment in an Instagram Story, saying she had no intention of participating in political activities.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she stated.

The actress’s clarification comes years after her support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election attracted intense criticism and online backlash.

During a Twitter Space in March 2023, Abraham said she faced attacks from some supporters of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following her political position

She alleged that petitions were sent to Netflix demanding the removal of her films, while some individuals also called on brands associated with her to end their relationships with her.

The controversy resurfaced in 2024 following a dispute involving an X user, identified as Big Ayo, who allegedly made defamatory claims about the actress and her family.

Abraham denied the claims and petitioned cybercrime authorities over the matter.

She later clarified that she had not caused the arrest of the man’s mother, contrary to claims circulating online, explaining that her complaint was based on alleged cyberbullying and defamatory content.

The incident generated further criticism on social media, with some users calling for her films to be removed from streaming platforms.

In July 2024, Abraham became emotional during an Instagram Live session while discussing the prolonged online attacks.

“I want to die,” she said, while recounting the impact of the criticism and alleging that her family, including her child, had been subjected to abusive comments.

The actress subsequently maintained that while she could tolerate attacks against her personally, she would not accept anyone involving her children in such controversies.

Meanwhile, the Lagos APC campaign council has Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Jide Kosoko serving as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director.

Despite Abraham’s denial, her name remains on the published list of members of the 33-person directorate.
