Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed security agencies in the state to strengthen measures to protect residents and visitors as the state prepares for increased activities.
Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday during a meeting with heads of security agencies at the State House, Marina, Lagos.
The meeting focused on security plans for the coming months, particularly as Lagos expects increased movement and activities during the festive period.
According to the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor received briefings on ongoing security operations and measures being put in place to improve security across the state.
Sanwo-Olu said the government would continue to take steps to prevent criminal activities and safeguard lives and property.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
The state government said Lagos is also preparing to host President Bola Tinubu, alongside several religious, cultural and political activities.
Omotoso said the state would witness increased activities during the Yuletide, with a large number of visitors expected to arrive.
He added that political activities were also gaining momentum following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement of the commencement of campaign activities.
The meeting was attended by senior security officials, including the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brigadier General A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; and Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Ayodele Ogunsan, as well as senior officials of the state government, also attended the meeting.
The governor’s engagement with the security chiefs comes amid preparations for increased movement across Lagos as political, religious, cultural and festive activities intensify.
