President Bola Tinubu is expected to leave Lagos for Abuja on Monday, ending a six-day stay in the state after his annual holiday in Europe.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed this in a statement titled, “President Tinubu returns to Abuja.”
Onanuga said Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, following his vacation in London and Paris.
During his stay, the President delivered his Independence Day address on October 1, marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary.
In the broadcast, Tinubu announced what he described as a transition from the country’s “age of reform” to an “age of prosperity.”
Later on October 1, the President attended the premiere of MKO, a documentary chronicling the life, political activities and legacy of the late businessman and politician, Chief Moshood Abiola, as well as the June 12 pro-democracy struggle.
The event was held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Lagos.
On Sunday, Tinubu visited the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, at the monarch’s Iga Iduganran Palace on Lagos Island.
The President had earlier travelled out of Nigeria in September for his annual vacation, spending time in the United Kingdom and France.
He was also reported to have held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris on September 17.
Tinubu did not personally attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Instead, Vice President Kashim Shettima led Nigeria’s delegation to the global gathering on his behalf.
