Police tighten security in Yola ahead of Shettima’s visit

The Adamawa State Police Command has stepped up security across Yola, the state capital, ahead of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s condolence visit to the family of the late Bamanga Tukur.

The command deployed armed personnel and armoured vehicles to strategic locations in the city as part of measures to ensure a hitch-free visit.

The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Hassan, ordered the deployment of personnel and operational assets across Yola and other strategic areas in the state.

Nguroje quoted the commissioner as saying, “Ahead of the official visit of His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed adequate security and placed watertight security measures across Yola and other strategic locations in the state.”

According to the statement, personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence and Traffic units, as well as officers from various divisions, have been mobilised for the visit.

The command also announced that traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations would be carried out in and around the state capital.

Hassan urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and remain law-abiding throughout the visit.

He warned individuals planning to cause trouble to stay away from venues connected to the visit, stressing that the command would respond firmly to any attempt to disrupt the condolence programme or breach public peace.

The police further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.

The commissioner reassured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
