The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of popular Afro-Fuji singer, Adesina Afeez, professionally known as Destiny Boy.
The police said the matter has been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in-depth probe.
Confirming the development on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the command had intensified efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the artiste’s death.
“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22, popularly called Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the SCID, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation, and one suspect is currently in custody,” Oluseyi said.
The news of Destiny Boy’s passing surfaced on Sunday after videos showing his lifeless body being moved to a mortuary circulated on social media, triggering widespread reactions and speculation.
In one of the clips, the late singer was seen lying inside a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
An associate of the deceased later released a separate video, attempting to address public concerns over the cause of death.
“Before people start spreading false narratives, I want to clarify that Destiny had been battling a health issue for some time. We did our best, but unfortunately, he didn’t survive,” the associate said.
Born Adesina Afeez, Destiny Boy began his music career early and gained prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral online.
He was trained at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he also worked as a backup dancer for Fuji musician, Pasuma.
The late singer went on to release several tracks, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
He is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, born in November 2024.
The police assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
