Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has publicly responded to ongoing controversies surrounding her personal life by revealing that she recently underwent a drug test, a step she said was taken to address persistent rumours and reclaim her peace of mind.

In an emotional post shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the actress described the past few months as one of the most challenging periods of her life, marked by intense public scrutiny and personal struggles.

“The past few months of my life have been nothing short of heavy,” Daniels wrote. “It was one of those seasons that tries to sit on your chest and ask, ‘So, what are we doing next?’ Everything I thought I knew felt like it was slipping away.”

Despite the emotional toll, Daniels said she was able to weather the storm due to the support she received from loved ones and members of the public.

“I didn’t drown,” she said. “I was carried by overwhelming love, support, patience and understanding from my family, my friends and people who genuinely care. For that, I am forever grateful.”

Explaining her decision to undergo a drug test, the actress said it was influenced by repeated claims circulating online that she was abusing drugs—allegations she described as false and deeply hurtful.

“One thing that echoed loudly across the media was, ‘Regina is a drug addict,’” she wrote.

“I looked at myself again and again, searching for this so-called addict. That was when it dawned on me that people often project their fears and negativity onto others. But projection is not reality, and noise is not truth.”

Daniels stressed that the test was not only about clearing her name but also about accountability and integrity, particularly for those who look up to her.

“I owe it to the people who stood by me, the people who love me and the people who see me as a role model,” she said.

“Integrity matters. Accountability matters. And peace of mind matters most.”
She added that the experience has marked a new chapter of self-reflection and growth in her life.

“This phase is about self-discovery, self-growth and being intentional about who I am becoming,” Daniels said. “I thank God endlessly for His grace and strength. I’m still standing, still growing, and just getting started.”

The development comes amid sustained public attention on her troubled marriage to billionaire businessman and senator, Ned Nwoko. The couple has been embroiled in a highly publicised dispute, with both sides trading serious allegations in recent months.

Daniels had previously accused Nwoko of domestic abuse and of attempting to force her into rehabilitation, claims he has denied. In response, the senator alleged that the actress has been dealing with substance use issues, stating that he arranged therapy after observing what he described as “concerning behaviour.”

Nwoko’s camp has also claimed to possess medical and toxicology reports allegedly showing positive drug and alcohol results, a claim that continues to fuel public debate.

In her latest post, however, Daniels maintained that she is choosing to define her own narrative. “Do you let other people’s opinions define you, or do you create your own story?” she asked. “As for me, I choose the latter—every single time.”
