Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema dominated the All Africa Music Awards 2026, clinching multiple top honours and emerging as the biggest winner of the night.
The 24-year-old singer, best known for the global hit “Calm Down,” won Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Artiste of the Year, and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB/Soul for the same song.
Rema edged out heavyweight contenders including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid and Asake in two of the most competitive categories of the awards.
While receiving his trophies, the singer expressed gratitude to his supporters and the award organisers.
“This means everything to me. I’m grateful to my fans across Africa and beyond who keep believing in my sound,” Rema said.
Despite missing out on the top individual awards, Burna Boy secured the Album of the Year prize, adding another major accolade to his career.
In other categories, Yemi Alade won Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary for “You Are” from Iyanu: The Animated Series.
Fast-rising artist Shallipopi also had a memorable night, with his song “Laho” earning Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Across the continent, Jux from Tanzania was named Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, while Cindy Le Coeur of the Democratic Republic of Congo picked up honours in her category.
AFRIMA 2026, which celebrates African music and cultural heritage, was held at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The ceremony featured electrifying performances from leading African artistes and marked the third time Lagos has hosted the prestigious event, following earlier editions in Ghana and Senegal.
Organisers said the awards continue to serve as a platform for showcasing African creativity and strengthening the continent’s presence on the global music stage.
