Iyabo Ojo says FAAN promotional video was unpaid, not politically driven

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has clarified that her recent video highlighting activities of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria was produced voluntarily and without political motive.

The video, which circulated widely online, showed the actress commending improvements at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. It triggered mixed reactions on social media, particularly because of her previously expressed political views.

In the clip shared on Instagram, Ojo praised the airport’s upgraded facilities and services, describing the environment as more comfortable and efficient.

However, some users questioned whether the actress had been contracted by the agency or aligned with the current administration, noting her past criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress during the EndSARS protests and her support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.

Responding to the speculation, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, denied that the actress was hired as a brand ambassador.

“Iyabo Ojo was not awarded any promotional contract and is not an ambassador of FAAN,” Kuku said.

“She was at the airport for a movie shoot and was simply encouraged to help share information about ongoing improvements. There was no payment involved.”

Addressing the backlash herself, Ojo explained that her decision to share the video was motivated by patriotism rather than politics.

“I’m Nigerian and I speak when I see progress,” she said.

“I was not paid and I have no political agenda. I only highlighted what I observed because I want positive change for my country.”

She added that FAAN approached her while she was filming at the airport and asked her to help publicise visible developments.

“They requested that I help spread the word about the changes, and I agreed freely,” she said.

“My support is for anything that moves Nigeria forward, not for any particular government.”

The actress also stressed that she remains open to working with any group committed to national development.

“I will support any effort that genuinely improves the country,” Ojo added. “My loyalty is to Nigeria first.”
