NIS extends UK passport intervention as 1,477 Nigerians enrol

The Nigeria Immigration Service has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom by two weeks, following increased demand from Nigerians seeking passport services.

The exercise, which was initially scheduled to end on September 19, 2026, will now continue until October 3 in London and Manchester.

The NIS disclosed this in a statement issued by its Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, and shared on the Service’s official X handle on Friday.

According to the Service, 1,477 Nigerians were processed and enrolled during the first four days of the exercise.

It added that more than half of the applicants whose enrolment had been completed had already received their passports, which were produced and dispatched to their respective addresses.

The extension was approved following a directive from the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in response to the large turnout recorded at the two centres.

The NIS said the decision was aimed at creating additional opportunities for eligible applicants to access the service.

The Service stated, “Eligible applicants are required to book appointments for the special intervention exercise via the website of the High Commission of Nigeria, United Kingdom.”

Applicants attending their appointments are expected to provide a completed application form and payment receipt, appointment slip, current passport where applicable, as well as a self-addressed return envelope.

The NIS also reminded applicants that passport applications and payments are conducted electronically and on a cashless basis.

It said the approved fees remained $162 for a five-year passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet.

The Service warned that applicants should not pay any extra fee to participate in the intervention exercise.

“No additional charges are required to participate in the intervention exercise,” the NIS stressed.

The Immigration Service said additional details concerning the extended exercise, locations and appointment arrangements would be released through its official communication channels and those of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.

The NIS thanked Nigerians in the United Kingdom for their patience and cooperation, assuring them that it remained committed to delivering efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
