NIS enrols 2,296 Nigerians in UK passport intervention

The Nigeria Immigration Service says 2,296 Nigerians have been enrolled during the first six days of its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom.

The exercise, which began on September 7, 2026, is being conducted at intervention centres in London and Manchester.

According to the NIS, 587 applicants were processed at the London Centre, while 1,709 were enrolled in Manchester between September 7 and 12.

The figures were contained in a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, as part of a review of the first week of the exercise.

The statement said, “Within the first six operational days, a total of 2,296 applicants were successfully enrolled.”

It added that the exercise had recorded a steady turnout, with applicants who had confirmed appointments being processed at both centres.

The Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, also visited the intervention centres in London and Manchester to assess the exercise and engage with members of the Nigerian community.

The Service said the visit was aimed at ensuring efficient and responsive passport services for applicants.

The NIS further disclosed that passport production and dispatch had commenced for applicants who had completed their enrolment.

It said, “Passport production and dispatch for enrolled applicants have commenced and are progressing steadily.”

The Service assured Nigerians with confirmed appointments that the intervention exercise remains ongoing, while urging applicants to cooperate with officials to ensure smooth processing.

The development follows a recent clarification by the Nigerian High Commission in London over an administrative fee charged during the exercise.

The mission said the standard administrative fee remained £20, explaining that applicants who had paid £70 would receive a £50 refund.
