Ligue 1: Godts shines as PSG beat Lyon 2-0

Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais in the French Ligue 1 on Monday, with second-half substitute Mika Godts delivering a goal and an assist to help the hosts claim all three points at the Parc des Princes.

The match remained goalless at half-time despite PSG’s dominance in possession and attacking pressure.

However, the hosts eventually broke Lyon’s resistance in the second half, scoring twice in the closing stages to seal a deserved victory.

PSG took the lead in the 72nd minute when Godts provided the assist for Senny Mayulu, who finished from close range after a well-worked attacking move.

The goal rewarded the hosts’ persistent pressure after Lyon had successfully kept them at bay for much of the contest.

Godts, who came on in the 57th minute, completed his impressive performance by scoring PSG’s second goal in the 84th minute.

The forward capitalised on a quick counterattack, receiving a pass from substitute Quentin Ndjantou before firing a right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner.

The victory reflected PSG’s control throughout the encounter.

They enjoyed 68 per cent possession, completed 757 passes and registered 17 shots, with 10 on target.

Lyon managed eight attempts, five of which tested the goalkeeper, but struggled to convert their opportunities into goals.

PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov also played an important role in securing the clean sheet, making five saves to deny the visitors.

Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greif recorded seven saves, but could not prevent the hosts from finding the net twice in the second half.

Godts emerged as the standout performer, finishing with one goal and one assist after coming off the bench.

His introduction gave PSG additional attacking impetus and proved decisive in a contest where Lyon had initially defended resolutely.

The result strengthened PSG’s position in the Ligue 1 campaign, while Lyon were left to rue their inability to withstand the hosts’ second-half pressure.
