LASTMA launches hotline to boost traffic emergency response

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has introduced a toll-free emergency hotline, 3367, to improve traffic management, enhance emergency response and promote greater accountability across the state.

The agency said the new short-code replaces its previous long-service contact, providing residents with a simpler and cost-free platform to report traffic incidents and other road emergencies.

In a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA disclosed that the hotline is currently available to subscribers on MTN, Glo and 9mobile networks.

According to the agency, members of the public can use the 3367 hotline to report vehicle breakdowns, road crashes, disabled trucks, stranded tankers, traffic gridlocks, road obstructions and other incidents requiring urgent intervention.

The statement added that the platform also allows residents to report the conduct, professionalism and operational activities of LASTMA officials as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability and service delivery.

To encourage wider public participation, callers can communicate with operators in English, Yoruba or Nigerian Pidgin, ensuring that language does not hinder emergency reporting.

Speaking on the initiative, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the launch of the hotline as another milestone in the agency’s drive to modernise traffic management and improve road safety in Lagos.

“The introduction of the 3367 toll-free hotline marks another significant step in our commitment to building a safer, more efficient and highly responsive transportation system across Lagos State. It gives residents a direct and cost-free channel to report traffic incidents requiring immediate attention,” he said.

Bakare-Oki noted that the rapid expansion of Lagos demands a proactive, technology-driven traffic management system capable of responding quickly to transportation challenges.

He assured residents that every report received through the hotline would be treated professionally and confidentially before being forwarded to the appropriate operational teams for swift action.

He also encouraged Lagos residents to make effective use of the service, saying public participation would contribute significantly to improving road safety, strengthening accountability and enhancing traffic management across the state.
